Obituary for John Kendrick Haldeman
John Kendrick Haldeman, age 75, went home to be with the Lord at his home surrounded by family and friends, after passing peacefully from leukemia on Monday, January 11, 2021.
John was born in Chattanooga, TN in 1945 to John Samuel Haldeman and Pauline Kendrick Haldeman and raised in Brookhaven, PA. John served God as a Trustee, Deacon, and lay teacher at Newark Baptist Church. He devoted his time to his passion of studying and teaching the Word of God through Bible studies at his church. A Bachelors of Science graduate at Pennsylvania Military College (currently Widener University), John led a career as a chemist for 45 years at Hercules Research Center. John was a lover of nature and photography, and spent much of his later years hiking, exploring, and documenting the natural beauty of the Northeastern US, including the waterfalls of Pennsylvania and the cherry blossoms of Washington, DC.
Family meant everything to John. He met his wife Lillian Erwin in Chester, PA at a St. James dance in 1963, and his life started anew when they married in 1967. Blessed with three children, and six grandchildren, he spent his years taking them on “field trips” to museums, zoos, beaches, baseball games, trails, and parks. John also cherished the deep friendships he had with his fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
John is survived by his wife of fifty-three years, Lillian Haldeman of Newark, DE; brother, Samuel Haldeman, and sister-in-law, Maria Haldeman of Orlando, FL; sister, Rebecca Archacki and brother-in-law, Timothy Archacki of Garnet Valley, PA; son, John Haldeman, Jr. of Newark, DE; daughter, Deborah Orlando and son-in-law, Eric Orlando of Townsend, DE; son, Michael Haldeman, and daughter-in-law, Erin Haldeman of Levittown, PA; grandchildren: Alexander Haldeman, Brianna Orlando, Savannah Orlando, Connor Haldeman, Adam Haldeman, and Jacob Haldeman.
On Monday, January 18th, 2021, family and friends are invited to a viewing at Newark Baptist Church, from 9.30am to 11:00am, followed by a service at 11am. Burial with follow after at Lawn Croft Cemetery in Trainer, PA. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be sent to Newark Baptist Church.
